Hey! Guess what?! In the TV Technology that hit my mailbox today they report that at Mac World in NY Avid announced it will ship ver. 8 of  Media Composer in early 1999. It's going to do uncompressed video! And for only $130,000.00! For those of us who already own this capability for around 1/10 of the cost and who have a hard enough time coming up with that kind of money, let alone $100K+, it's kind of crazy that we even compare the systems. I mean, as a direct dollar for dollar example, I don't compare my $13,000 Honda Civic to a top of the line Ferrari. No I can't do everything the Ferrari driver can do and certainly not in the same style, but hey, I own a very respectable, dependable, comfortable, decent looking, smooth running car that gets me everywhere I need to go. Sure I'd love to own a Ferrari, but it's outta my league. Avid is outta my league. Every little piece of software or hardware (all of which you must by from them paying a couple hundred percent extra for the Avid sticker covering the OEM's name) can cost as much as a whole SR system. I have to admit that I've compared SR to Avid on numerous occassions. The fact that we do so - that SR/Matrox is even in contention to compete in the same league with Avid - is testimony to what an incredible value it is. I will keep pushing Jamie and Eron and company to push SR on to make it equal or better than Avid at any price. The potential is certainly there. At the same time let's not kid ourselves. What we got here is one rump-kickin' bang for the buck. Matrox, In:Sync, you guys are awesome! Now about that batch capture...
